Now, I don’t know the first thing about make up, I slap some foundation on at roughly 6am every weekday and pray it lasts me the dreaded commute into work enough that I look half presentable. But I do however get caught up in beauty trends, and it is something I am genuinely interested in, but it wasn’t until a recent trip to Westfield in Stratford that I discovered three things:
1. I wear the wrong colour foundation (I’m sure this is a pretty common problem)
2. I actually have combination skin rather than oily
3. You get what you pay for
I discovered all of this from a rather helpful makeup artist at the Chanel counter, who went through my skin type with me, what foundation to use and how to properly prep my skin, and ever since I have changed my routine I have found my skin has improved greatly. So I thought I would share with you my little beauty bits that I purchased.
So the first thing I bought was the Hydra Beauty Gel Creme, I was recommended this when the make up artist showed me that my skin was actually extremely dry around my forehead and nose, and that my makeup went patchy in these areas, not because of the oil but because it clings to the dry bits. She also explained, this is probably due to the travelling, London smog is particularly harsh to skin! So she recommended I use this as a daily moisturiser for an instant fix.
I then pair the gel creme with the Hydra Beauty Serum, I use this once I have taken off all of my makeup at night. It once again has the gel like consistency and it feels amazing on your skin once you have taken off all your makeup. The lady at Chanel explained to me the gel creme is for the skin you want now, and the beauty serum is for the skin you want tomorrow. I thought this was quite a nice way to remember 🙂
Now on to foundation, I was recommended this by a friend (which is why I was at the Chanel counter in the first place) so this was something I knew I was going to get. It is the Perfection Lumiere Velvet in colour 30. It is a water based foundation that you shake and apply, it has a matte finish and is buildable which is great, as my skin changes on a daily basis.
I set the foundation with one of my classics that I buy time and time again Poudre Universelle Libre Loose Powder. Its a really nice light powder that just sets my makeup well and comes with a cute powder puff to make for easy application. I also purchased the compact for on the go, which you can find in my whats in my bag post, as it is good for on the go.
Finally, this isn’t actually from Chanel, but I was recommended it by the extremely helpful lady and it has changed my skin for the better! I was perfectly happy taking a makeup wipe before and scrubbing away, but my skin randomly broke out and I suffered from a lot of redness, I now get none of this with this Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water and will definitely be repurchasing once this gigantic bottle eventually runs out!
I’d love to know anymore advice anyone has about combination skin! As i’m still trying to wrap my head around it, so any tips will be well received.

SPF!! I have combination skin, and if I don’t wear SPF, especially when I go outside my chin and nose get really dry. I also find that having two different moisturisers helps! (plus Giorgio Armarni Luminous Silk and Chantecialle are both fantastic for combination skin- well for mine anyway)
