If you’ve been a follower of mine for a while, you’ll know I’m partial to a tan. Being naturally the same colour as a newborn baby fish and only going the shade of Lobster in the sun, I have to rely on the fake stuff to achieve my faux glow, enter water tans.
Unfortunately, with great tan comes great responsibility. You’ve got to make sure you moisturise daily, avoid streaks and then there’s the issue of transferring – RIP to all those bed sheets that I have lost to the morning after a spray tan. That’s why my latest find has blown me out of the (tanning) water!
Tanning Water is a light-weight and quick drying type of tan that develops over a few hours. It’s super hydrating and best of all, transfer proof! Now, for someone who is terrified of streaks, it isn’t as hard as it seems. Most tanning waters take a couple of seconds to dry, so you can easily see where else needs application.
I made this discovery while browsing on Instagram, so off to Lakeside I sent Mr C, and a mere few hours later he returned clutching a bag full of tan. One, Vita Liberata’s Invisi Mousse and the other St Tropez Purity Bronzing Water Mousse. See what I thought about the two below!
Vita Liberata Invisi Mousse
Smell: ★★★★★ Next to no scent at all, definitely not once dried.
Transfer: ★★★★★ 0% transfer! Honestly, I was amazed.
Colour: ★★★★★ I went for colour Medium/ Dark and it had no orange hue or muddy appearance like other tans.
Ease of use: ★★★★☆ I think all tanning waters have some degree of difficulty as they have no guide. But let me tell you, the pros definitely outweigh this one tiny con.
Notes: I would 100% recommend this, in fact, I’ve already bought a spare bottle for as soon as this one runs out. It lasts solidly for about 10 days with regular moisturising and fades down naturally. The only problem I did have with it, is that it a bugger to remove once the time has come! So much so, I had to pull out the big guns with a tan remover. Luckily, it doesn’t go patchy or scaley and due to its naturally moisturising ingredients it doesn’t cling to your dry bits – Go out and buy it right away!
St Tropez Purity Bronzing Water Mousse
Smell: ★★★★★ I LOVE the smell of this one! It has a tropical scent that isn’t too strong, and can we be honest for a min, it’s 2018 – Why are there still biscuit scented tans!!
Transfer: ★★★★☆ Ah, unfortunately, this one struggled a bit. Not sure if it’s because of the insane heatwave in the UK at the moment, or it just isn’t as transfer proof as Vita Liberata, but I did have some issues especially on my legs.
Colour: ★★★★☆ This tan only comes in one colour, so you’ll be buggered if you want it lighter or darker. Luckily for me, it seemed to be an alright shade, but I know that isn’t always ideal.
Ease of use: ★★★★☆ Once again, it’s always going to be difficult using a tanning water. But I just love the results.
Notes: Now, as much as I liked this tan – and will definitely use it again – would I reach for it over Vita Liberata? I don’t think I would. But it’s still an amazing tan, I just had slightly more struggle with it. I found it didn’t fade down to a natural looking shade and left me looking like a loaf of tiger bread by about day 6. But it’s 10 times better than a regular mousse tan.
So, there you have it, my official tanning water review. What other tanning waters would you like me to try next? Think of me as your bronzed guinea pig!
