With the heatwave in the UK at the moment, it’s got me thinking all about holidays, and not just a regular holiday, I’m talking about a classic – pack a picnic, leave at the crack of dawn and drive – road trip! But with all this excitement it’s easy for you to forget safety. That’s why I’m here to help, take a look at my 4 ways to keep your car running safely this Summer and ensure the only expected bumps in the road you’ll be met with are the awful UK potholes!
- Check your cooling system: Coolant protects your engine from the whole spectrum of weather conditions. On the hotter months, its high boiling point removes excessive heat from the engine which is essential on a hot day or long road trip to help you avoid unnecessary breakdowns.
- Is your battery working? Did you know that the summer months are actually harder on your car’s battery than those of Winter? Make sure that this Summer you keep your car cool by trying to park in shaded areas and try to cut down on the amount of electricity-loving devices that could drain your battery. Unfortunately, sometimes these things can’t be helped though and you need to seek the advice of trusted experts. You could repair or also replace your car batteries by online booking at Jet Wheel Tyre or find local branches near you.
- Check your tyre grip: If you’re heading out on a long drive, road conditions can change in the blink of an eye – Especially with the unpredictable British weather, rain can hit you when you least expect it. This can cause your car to slip, or worse have an accident as unchecked tyres will not have proper road grip.
- Check the essentials: One of the most overlooked checks in cars is screenwash. Before heading out on any trip always make sure you have enough screenwash, think about it, how are you ever going to drive efficiently if you can’t see! While you’ve already got the hood open checking your screenwash, you might as well carry out a few other routine checks such as oil and water.
So, there you have it. I hope you all have fun and safe road trips this Summer – If you’re heading anywhere nice, please let me know!
